Alternative
medicine:
For decades
alternative medicine has gained a great deal of interest, definitely
indicating a reaction to a way of life imposed on us by our society,
unaware of the rationality or profitability. People today pay
heavily for this hectic lifestyle. Subject to daily stress,
industrial pollution and consummation of adulterated foods that are
unnaturally altered by pesticides, insecticides, genetic
modification or questionable methods of breeding, we observe an
increase of allergies such as asthma, which ravages children.
Through constant use of antibiotics, our bodies develop a resistance
to them. When deprived of their natural defences, the body no longer
reacts to medication. It becomes an ideal place for germs and
viruses.
For the past few
decades, new sicknesses have appeared like chronic fatigue that can
manifest after a viral infection. Traditional medicine no longer has
all the answers to these new illnesses. The sick now have at their
disposal a range of complementary techniques in order to regain
their health. If alternative medicine proves effective, its success
is based on a global approach that results in a new trend of
wellbeing. Before, the sick relied totally on their doctors, now
they want to take charge of their health and their individuality.
Beyond their physical ailments, the sick look to resolve the psychic
and emotional unbalance through active therapies like Yoga, Tai Chi,
massage and meditation. It’s this accountability that drives
numerous people to turn to alternative therapies.
Did you know that 5
out of 10 Canadians turn to alternative medicine? 75% of cases have
resulted in complete recovery. More and more doctors are becoming
open-minded to the different methods and therapies that alternative
medicine offers and do not hesitate to recommend their patients to
these natural approaches. Alternative medicine has become a perfect
complimentary source to traditional medicine. These complementary
therapeutic practices do not replace traditional treatments.
However they can be
an interesting alternative for patients. Even though these
alternatives cannot totally heal certain serious illnesses or save
lives of the terminally ill, alternative therapies have the
advantage to alleviate the pain and lessen the undesirable effects
of certain traditional aggressive treatments. Therapeutic Touch and
massage are examples for those afflicted with H.I.V. and contributes
to their comfort and security while relaxing the patient.
Alternative medicine includes more that 80 different therapies. The
next pages will reveal the therapies which I am certified.
