Lymphatic drainage:
Lymphatic drainage is a gentle massage technique designed to
stimulate lymph circulation and remove toxins from the body in order
to reinforce the immune system. The lymphatic draining is done with
the fingers and the palm of the hand on the whole body, following
the direction of the lymphatic circulation and exercising a pressure
that can be intense and then gradually decreased.
Since 1654, the existence of the lymph became known through the work
of a Danish physiologist, Thomas Bartholin. The mysterious clear
liquid acts to nourish and cleanse the cells representing 15% of the
physical weight. When the circulation of the lymph in the lymphatic
vessels become inadequate, the body weakens and becomes intoxicated,
this can cause health problems such as, premature aging, cellulites,
heavy legs, stretch marks and swollen ankles. The lymph circulates
in the body thanks to the muscular contractions and the blood
vessels that remove the toxins and cellular remains. Glands are
situated along the lymph vessels, particularly the groin, underarm
and on both sides of the neck in order to cleanse the lymph before
it reaches the blood stream through the veins.
There are 2 principal methods used to drain the lymph, the Vodder
method and the Leduc. Dr. Emile Vodder’s practice dates back to 1932
when he was looking for a treatment for chronic sinusitis. He then
used the technique for other ailments, both therapeutic and
aesthetic. Dr. Albert Leduc’s method pursues Dr. Vodder’s work but
using a few different movements.
According to practitioners, lymphatic drainage cleans and
regenerates the body, accelerates healing and reduces the risk of
infection. It is also useful in treating problems relating to the
blood and lymphatic circulation as in the case of varicose veins,
cellulites and cardio and thyroid insufficiency. Recommendations for
certain problems that require precaution like sclerosis of the sinus
carotid, in cases of hyper thyroid gland, thrombosis, cardiac oedema
and bronchial asthma. It is not recommended to treat patients
without medical authorisation, in cases of acute infections such as
tuberculosis and malignant tumours. Lymphatic drainage is totally
recommended in prevention of colds and flu. The method we use is
that of Dr. Albert Leduc and a treatment can vary between 11/2 hours
to 1hour 45 minutes.
