Massage therapy:
Touch is probably the oldest form of natural therapy. Some believe
that touch, to place a hand on a sensitive area and massage it, is
part of our human nature. Practiced in both eastern and western
cultures, massage is as old as the hills. Modern massage therapy has
simply perfected and defined the primitive gesture of touching in
order to create a series of preventative methods for relaxation and
treatments.
Massage therapy reduces the risks of wounding the perineum during a
birth, combats anxiety, contributes to the treatment for depression,
relieves lumbago pain, improves the quality of life for cancer
patients, helps in the treatment for asthma, constipation and
certain psychological or psychiatric disorders, for fibromyalgy,
improves growth in premature children, helps in post-operative
recovery and facilitates delivery.
This technique consists of various movements, brushing, kneading,
friction, and vibration, which when executed in a specific order,
creates the same effect as those who do physical exercises. Massage
therapy combines the overall techniques of massage, that although
different in their philosophical and mobilisation, share certain
principals and methods, with the objective to relax, absorb and
digest food as well as eliminate toxins, helps with the overall
function of the vital organs and is very effective to bring about
physical awareness.
Massage therapy is a practice that uses the fingers and hands but
also the feet, elbows and even the knees. With a specific technique,
the movements can be applied to the whole or a particular part of
the body, the muscles, tendons, ligaments as well as specific points
situated along the meridian.
There exists well over 80 techniques of massage and the different
forms do not ordinarily present a risk to a healthy person. Those
with problems with circulation, phlebitis, thrombosis, varicose
veins, cardio-vascular problems, arteriosclerosis, hypertension or
diabetes should first seek medical advice from their doctor. In
allergy cases, it is not recommended to use oils with walnut,
hazelnut or peanut base. Physically, massage goes much further than
just relaxation; it can also destabilize emotions in a fragile
person. Here, we use Swedish massage that favours relaxation and
physiotherapy for deep therapeutic massage. A session lasts
approximately 1 hour.
