Reflexology:

Reflexology is an energetic approach, directed to help the process of auto-healing, by the massage of the reflex zones and points. Stimulating and relaxing at the same time, this practice utilizes a pressure with the fingers at specific reflex points situated on the feet and hands corresponding to organs and their functions. Some reflexologists’ claim that a calcareous deposit accumulated in certain zones in the foot creates an energetic blockage and is enough to eliminate it for the body to regain its harmony.

The ancient writings and illustrations make you think that the Chinese and Egyptians used this form of reflexology during the antiquity period. It was Eunice Ingham (1880-1974) an American physiotherapist, Dr. Fitzgerald’s assistant, who in the early 1930’s brought about the medical discoveries of reflexology as we know it today. Dr. Ingham was the first to practice modern reflexology treatment and who suggested a chart of the hands and feet to represent a perfect reflection of the body, even before the concept could be elaborated, proposed as well, a holographic representation of the human body.

A session is generally an agreeable experience that should be pain free. Reflexology can sooth rheumatism in the old as well as calm a baby’s cry. Reflexology can improve circulation, reinforce the immune system, help with the digestive system and eliminates toxins but cannot heal serious illnesses, only sooth the symptoms.

Amongst others, reflexology can decrease symptoms related to stress that causes migraine headaches, muscular tension and digestive disorders. Their positive effects are very effective in relieving a number of pains and aches, whether articulations, muscular, arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, tennis elbow, lumbago, tendonitis, cardio-vascular problems, angina, hypertension, palpitations, gastric and intestinal disorders, gallstones, colitis, chronic constipation, indigestion, gynaecological problems, premenstrual syndrome, psychological disorders, depression, anxiety, respiratory problems, bronchitis, emphysema, sinusitis, urinary problems, cystitis, nephritic (renal) colic, problems with the lymphatic system, aqueous retention, endocrine problems, menstruation pain, thyroid gland and the central nervous system.

Reflexology is no-risk, however in certain cases; precautions are made when treating pregnant women in their first 16 weeks of pregnancy; those with circulation and lymph disorders, those on medication, drugs or alcohol or with contagious diseases. A session lasts 1 hour.
