Owanka Nature Consciousness Movement           

Historic: 

For 30 years that I have frequented the region of Lakes Lortie and Manouane in the Haute Maurice in Quebec. At the time, accessibility was very difficult. The wildlife was very abundant. Today, the region is much more accessible than before, since the number of users of the territory has increased, but unfortunately, the wildlife has decreased drastically.  It was only when I finally retired from the army that I unfortunately discovered the numerous environmental problems that we have in the region. 

Since 2005, I have been involved with the environmental cause. I have tried to sensitize the regional users as well as the governments, of the environmental issues in our region but without success. I have also tried to create an association in the region but again without success. 

In front of this mal de vivre and deaf ears I had to resign myself to the fact that most of the utilisers are not ready to change their behaviour towards nature. Since childhood, my dream to live in the forest never left me. So I decided that it was about time for my wife and me to live our dream before age creeps up on us. We will be more useful there, then in the suburbs of Montreal, for sure.  I had to think of a concept that could allow us to live out our dream while working for the human and environmental causes; this is the reason why the Owanka Nature Consciousness Movement was created. By browsing about a bit here and there on our web site, you will better understand the objectives of the organisation.  

Who are we? 

We are a non-profit corporation that defends nature’s interests and help promote harmony and human growth through different outdoor activities, alternative medicines and spirituality. Living without commodities and modern facilities, our survival will depend entirely on our members,  that will help finance the activities on the corporation site. The proceeds will not under any reason be used for personal gain but rather for the corporative use as according to the foundation convention. 

Where are we situated? 

We are situated in the forest of Canada, north of Quebec, near the Lortie and Manouane Lakes, on the Sarto River. In other words, in the Haute Mauricie region, about 160 km north-west of La Tuque and 160 km north of Saint-Michel-des-Saints.  Just click on the link photo for more information.

Objective and mission: 

Bring awareness to the population and to the elected, of the necessity to protect nature and the environment in order to adopt a more balanced behaviour towards mother earth through diverse outdoor activities and workshops on the land. The alternative medicine and oral teachings on the autochthones traditions and customs will be the tool that will permit people to live in better symbioses with their environment and the planet. Studies and nature observation at Lake Manouane will allow people to build this symbiosis between nature and themselves.  

In order to protect the fragile ecosystems of Lake Manouane, we need to better understand and to better understand we need to study it in order to better protect it. However without your help we will not be able to succeed. The construction of ecological infrastructures in the forest is necessary so we can do our work properly. This will allow me and Sharon to live comfortably year round by using clean and reusable energies while practising the simple life. Your donations will serve to protect the Lake Manouane nature and also to denounce all forms of abuse against her. We also join forces with other environmental and ecological organisations in regional and national causes. The planet is dying and according to scientists united at Bali just recently, we have at most between 10 to 15 years to change our behaviour towards this earth. Afterwards it will be too late.
