Spirituality:
The state of the soul is essential for the psychological state of
health. Spiritual growth is not an option that we can leave or take.
Like the body, the soul needs care, however we live in a society
that does not place much attention on the soul. In this new age,
spirituality is nothing more that what nourishes and enlightens the
soul. It is neither a combination of truths nor a complex ritual,
nor is it a community or a poverty commitment, it is a combination
of everything, which nourishes the soul and permits human growth.
Spirituality therefore is not a theological speciality nor a
religious sector but something humanly profound, a capability
belonging to all mankind. Spirituality is universal and certainly
can take all kinds of forms as seen in religion and cultures,
however, each of these forms are nothing more than the manifestation
of universal spirituality.
We can find nourishment for the soul in Zen, Jesuit or
transcendental meditations. Dervish or Quaker dances, in the silence
of the Quaker or Cistercian monasteries, in Hindu ashrams, in
orthodox or Taoist incense, also in the reading of Catholic liturgy
or in the Indian Native customs and traditions.
Spirituality allows us to be in contact with the primordial
universal energy. This life force energy penetrates and overcomes
us. When this energy fills us, the joy we feel is conveyed to those
around us through compassion and which promotes peace.
But where can we find it? Where do we look for our souls? Should we
first look in the sacred religious scriptures, deep within the
mystic raptures, in the birth of the New Age or with the gnomes who
have the understanding and road to happiness or in the purifying
rituals or ceremonies?
According to the Hindu myth, in the beginning of time all humans
were gods, but these humans abused their divinity that Brahman
decided to remove all their powers but didn’t know where to hide
them. There was a great meeting of the gods. The first god advised
to bury them deep within the earth but Brahman said one day the
humans may dig and find them. The second god suggested placing them
at the bottom of the ocean and again Brahman said a day may come
when the humans will learn to swim and find their divinity at the
bottom of the ocean. A third had the idea of bringing the humans
divinity to the top of the highest mountain but again Braham was not
satisfied. He contemplated long and finally he said: this is what we
will do. We will hide the human divinity deep within their own
beings because the humans would never guess to look for it there.
The word, soul, appears throughout humanity. It has been referred to
as a universal dimension and does not belong to any one religion in
particular. The soul is deep within oneself. Art is a perfect
vehicle for the soul in which it prefers to express itself. The soul
is associated with the true self, the root of our individuality. The
soul has surpassed religion in search of spirituality.
Are we to assume that religion has a positive and constructive
effect to our spiritual growth and development? Has there not been
evidence to the contrary which is to say that religion is a serious
obstacle in the fulfillment, the articulation and suitability to our
spirituality? Has religion not outlived its spiritual usefulness?
Hasn’t the religious era come to an end?
Religion was born over 10,000 years ago and influenced man by
patriarchal characteristics, such as insisting on fear, control and
power, pessimistic tendencies as well as seeing everywhere signs of
sin and the devastation in idolatry, instead of facing the obstacles
and committing to solidarity. This new spirituality does not belong
to a religion and has not transpired through any sacred scriptures.
This spirituality is for all mankind, all nations, and all cultures
and appears above all in nature and the universe itself. It urges us
forward in our pilgrimage in the search of meaning and values, urges
us towards each other, towards mother earth and the universe.
This spirituality renounces exclusivist and any intolerance to see
the good deep within ourselves. Religion was a temporary reality
that has outlived its purpose. Spirituality is something that you
experience within your being regardless of religious practice or
beliefs.
When the being is filled with the spiritual essence, this energy
transcends to the soul and radiates outward towards others. This is
the beauty of life, the essence, radiating from the soul, from your
being that harmonises gently with the whole of mankind, towards a
planetary and universal awareness.
